Through the first month, the team was over-relying on a surprising return to long-past form for Brown and a burst of confidence from Kempe. Since both have cooled, no one has stepped up in their places. It was only a matter of time before the Carter injury started to be felt, and it's being felt now. This is where it would've paid for Blake to have acquired a solid 3C over the Summer, someone who could move up to 2C in the event of injury to Carter or Kopitar.
As fun to watch as Kempe is, he doesn't strike me as a player that will lead a line and make plays happen for his teammates. He should probably be on the wing if he's to be on the 2nd line, but he's been forced to play center because there are no better options. |
